POSITION: Library and Learning Center Assistant
REPORTS TO: Director of Miller Library
JOB PURPOSE: The Library and Learning Center Assistant oversees the delivery of basic services in the library on evenings and weekends. The role supports student learning and success by assisting, advising, and tutoring students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide responsible and solitary oversight of the library on nights and weekends.
- Provide information and guidance to students across programs on basic Library & Learning Center Services.
- Answer inquiries via phone, email, and in person relating to Library & earning Center Services.
- Assist with special programs, such as Digitization, Archiving, and Research as assigned.
- Work assigned hours at the Circulation Desk
- Provide administrative support across Library & Learning Center services including but not limited to, filing, outreach, scheduling, minor cleaning, etc.
- Enforce Library, Learning Center & College policies and procedures.
- Offer assistance to patrons, troubleshooting printing/scanning/researching issues, providing simple software support, discharging items and offering support in other administrative and customer services duties as related to the basic services in the Library & Learning Center including inclement weather coverage, reporting, interlibrary loan support, shelving/inventory, cleaning, etc.–and may be assigned short-term or long-term projects in those areas as needed.
- Ensures students are provided consistent, accurate and prompt Library & Learning Center services.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position includes a non-traditional work week (Sunday thru Thursday 2:00pm-10:00pm) with the potential for limited adjustments around Christmas break and over the summer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience, Competencies, and Education
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Two or more years of work in higher education or related experience
- Experience working with students
- Experience with the Jenzabar system
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent writing and speaking skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- High degree of computer literacy
- Ability to work well independently and within a team
- Ability to help organize & plan projects
- Ability to triage virtual and in-person questions, complaints, etc.
